The importance of typography transcends beyond just visual aesthetics. Well used typography can transform the user experience of a product. Shortly after dropping out of Reed college, Steve Jobs enrolled himself in a typography class because of his love of hand drawn letters. His knowledge and appreciation of typography contributed to the incredible success of the Apple products that featured new fonts and the ability for users to choose. I share this love of letters with Jobs, and his story shows how intentional typographic choices can make all the difference in the world.
I created a set of recipe pages to feature my grandmother's famous cherry pie, which we make every summer together when I visit. I baked the pie, photographed it, and made typography and layout choices to put together my page in InDesign. The script typefaces is adapted from a pioneer woman, and looks similar to my grandmother's.
For my typography class, I was prompted to choose an article about typography and reformat it in InDesign. I chose this article about the affect fonts have on cultural wars. I chose graphics to accompany several pages of unformatted text and created a neatly designed spread.
